iPhone 3GS coming to Orange UK on November 10

0

So you’ve been lusting after that spit-shined touchy-swipey device from Apple, huh? If you’re in the UK, come November 10 you’ll finally have a choice of iPhone provider (both for 3G and 3GS flavors), with The Guardian confirming the date as Orange’s launch of the coveted handset. O2′s exclusivity runs out on the ninth of that month, but we shouldn’t be too quick to rejoice, as Orange will seek to “add value” rather than undercut O2′s pricing. Independent retailers Carphone Warehouse and Phones4U are also expected to stock the iPhone on behalf of Orange, and lest we forget Vodafone will be joining in with its own offering in early 2010. The CEO of 3 has also indicated a strong desire to bring Cupertino’s baby onboard, though that’s unlikely to happen before the midpoint of next year. So it’ll get cheaper, just very… very slowly.

Lenovo gets official with Win7-powered IdeaPad and IdeaCentre machines

0

Lenovo already got official with a couple of its Windows 7-powered machines last week, but it looks like the rest of the crop is landing today. Of course, we’ve already seen the 11.6-inch IdeaPad U150 and 15.6-inch U550 pop up in various corners of the globe this month, and the IdeaPad U350 has been around since the summer. That said, we’ll take the OS refresh and minor spec bumps any day of the week (along with new colors on the S10-2), and that’s exactly what we’re getting. We’ll spare you the rehash (it’s all there in the read link if you need a refresher), but over on the desktop front, we’re pretty stoked about the stylish (and previously rumored) all-in-one IdeaCentre B500. Packing a Core 2 Quad CPU, 1TB of HDD space, up to 8GB of DDR3 RAM and a 23-inch LCD, this thing may actually perform fairly well in tasks more strenuous than checking email. The business-minded K300 and bargain-priced H230 ($299 starting point) are less thrilling from a hardware perspective, but they’ll certainly fit their respective molds quite well. The whole lot should be available to order soon directly from Lenovo, and there’s bound to be plenty of options for those not content with base configurations.

Pentax’s entry-level K-x DSLR receives glowing review

0

Pentax’s K-x has been shipping in various corners of the globe (in various hues) for a hot minute now, but at long last the entry-level DSLR has found itself on the test bench. The good folks over at Tech Radar were able to take the $650 shooter for a spin, and with few exceptions, they absolutely adored it. Image quality was deemed fantastic, and without qualification, that’s easily the most important aspect of a camera. Critics also appreciated the build quality, rear LCD and ergonomics, though they did note that the 720p movie mode was “hit and miss.” They found it to be a good fit for novices and amateurs, and while they did feel that it was somewhat less comfortable to wield than Nikon’s D5000, they still maintained that it’ll be a great bargain when the street price falls just a bit. Tap the read link for the full skinny — but only if you feel compelled.

Teclast T51 is an Audiophile Quality 1080p PMP?

0

We’re not entirely sure what Teclast means by the T51 being an audiophile’s PMP. We’ve always assumed every PMP maker makes sound quality one of the top priorities. But here goes Teclast claiming the T51 should appeal better to real audiophiles than other PMPs in the market (should we call the T51 an mp3 player plus video?). To be more specific, Wolfson audio chips are now becoming legends as a cheap solution for better sound quality. Hopefully, the Wolfson WM8740 inside the T51 proves will do well.

On top of everything mentioned, the T51 supports 1080p HD videos. The 3.5-inch TFT LCD screen supports 480 x 360 resolution, so I suppose the T51 is not exactly a videophile’s PMP, though there’s always HDMI out. It can play an army of video and music codecs, too, which is one of the reasons we are always considering these Chinese MP4 players. The other reason is price: for an 8GB 1080p HDMI out player with a spanking wolfson chip, you will only have to shell out $155. Not exactly cheap, but it’s damn reasonable.

OPPO SMART S33 Touchscreen MP4 Player, not an iPod Touch Clone

0

We saw this cutie a few months ago and noted that if it had WiFi connectivity, we would have filed it under iPod Touch clone. The OPPO S33 is your basic touchscreen PMP with very few feature highlights. If looks can qualify as a feature, the S33 is one of the cuter ones. Ownta is now making them available on pre-order status. The 4GB will set you back just a little over a hundred bucks. The specs are a 3-inch 480 x 272 touchscreen LCD, ID3, LRC and TTX support and an FM tuner. (more…)
