MSI outs exceptionally exquisite X-Slim X420 laptop

MSI‘s just outed another in its X-Slim series laptops, this one dubbed the X420. The 14-inch, ultra thinny boasts a choice of Intel Core 2 Duo SU7300 or SU4100 CPUs, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5430 graphics with up to 1GB of DDR3 VRAM, an up to 500GB SATA, and a choice of 4 or 8-cell batteries. Other features include Bluetooth and a 1.3 megapixel webcam, but the real conversation piece here is looks, in our opinion — we’re really digging the translucent, coffee brown profile of this Windows 7 thin and light. MSI Wind U160 hands-on

We told you MSI was going to bring its Wind U160 to Vegas and we just some alone time with it. The design is obviously inspired by a Sony VAIO, with the glowing power light nestled in the hinge, though we wish they had mimicked Sony’s matte lids — the U160′s glossy mocha-brown lid loves it some fingerprints. We’re impressed with the thinness of the netbook and it felt pretty light in our hand. Unfortunately the chicklet keyboard doesn’t feel as solid as the one on the Wind U135 and it’s got some serious trampoline bounce. As for the internals, we’ve been told it will pack an 1.6GHz Intel Atom N450 CPU, 1GB of RAM and a Windows 7 Starter-booting 250GB hard drive all for $399. It could be a decent netbook player if its six-cell battery produces some solid battery life. Hit the break for the video.
MSI planning to a show dual-screen e-reader, 3D laptop at CES

We don’t have too many details here, but we sure are itching to get to Vegas to see if MSI really does have a dual-screen, Tegra-powered e-reader up its sleeve. Let’s have it MSI: are you stealing another page from your Taiwanese arch-nemesis ASUS and its dual-screen Eee Reader? Regardless, Digitimes reports that not only will it show a dual-screen gadget of sorts, but also one with a slate form factor. More believable is the 3D laptop that the Taiwanese company is said to be prepping. Let’s just hope they have gone with NVIDIA’s 3D Vision technology there. It’s only a matter of hours now until we find out about it all.
MSI teases Wind Top AP1920, Wind Box DE220 and DC500

There ain’t much to go on just yet, but one thing’s for certain: MSI will be unveiling a trio of new machines at CES in just a few weeks. Over on the Wind Top side, it’ll be introducing the all-new AP1920 all-in-one PC, which will measure in at 35mm thick and sport an 18.5-inch display, Atom D510 or D410 CPU and a power-sipping attitude. The nettop lovers will be thrilled to know that a new duo of mini PCs will also get unwrapped, as the Wind Box DC500 and DE220 step in with Intel’s newest Pine Trail processors and a whole slew of companion components that we’re still waiting to hear more on. Hey, we told you it was just a tease.
MSI slides out 13.4-inch X-Slim X350 CULV laptop

MSI has been quite the snake of late. Just over the past fortnight alone the outfit has slyly rolled out a new Wind Top all-in-one PC, a revamped X-Slim X600 Pro and now a brand new CULV rig that promises up to 9 hours of battery life and weighs just 3.31 pounds. The 13.4-inch X-Slim X350 doesn’t deviate from the design mantra established in earlier X-Slim models, and within you’ll find an Intel CULV Core 2 Duo processor, a ‘chiclet’ keyboard, LED-backlit 1,366 x 768 resolution display, an integrated HDMI socket, GMA 4500MHD graphics set, 2GB of DDR2 RAM, a 1.3 megapixel webcam, gigabit Ethernet, optional Bluetooth, WiFi, an SD / MMC card reader, audio in / out, a couple of USB 2.0 sockets and Windows 7 Home Premium runnin’ the show. There’s also an optional external optical drive available (DVD or Blu-ray), your choice of a 4- or 8-cell battery, VGA output and a pair of inbuilt speakers. Mum’s the word on pricing and availability, but we suspect the firm will be showcasing this shortly when CES kicks off.
MSI X-Slim X600 Pro tweaks the 15.6-inch thinsanity formula

The last time we bumped into MSI’s 15.6-inch X-Slim X600 we were unimpressed with the build quality — it just seemed like too much plastic in too thin of a form factor to be trusted. Well, the X-Slim X600 Pro seems to have addressed some of the perceived quality issues, with a new scratch-resistant surface and silver inlays, but we’ll have to play with one before we really know if these refinements are merely skin deep. The largest hardware tweak is the new chiclet keyboard, while inside the laptop has scored “the latest” Intel Core 2 Duo CULV processor, matched with the same ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330 graphics from last time. There’s no word on price or availability, but we’re sure we’ll be seeing and hearing more at CES.
MSI eagerly supports HD video on its MT-V887 PMP

It’s been a couple months since noticing that MSI had a renewed interest in PMPs, and now the outfit is back with yet another media player. The MT-V887 takes the sleek, understated styling of the MT-V656 and ramps the display to a none-too-shabby 4.3-inches (480 x 272). Based on the Rockchip RK2728B, this guy adds the H.264 codec and 720p support to an already insane helping of media formats. In addition to all of that, you can catch the KBBL Morning Zoo Crew on its FM receiver. No words on price or availability, but you’ll know as soon as we do.

MSI’s Wind Top line seems to be expanding at a breakneck pace, and the latest entry is actually worth bending over backwards to get a look at. Boasting a 21.6-inch multitouch display (1,920 x 1,080 native resolution), the all-in-one desktop also features Windows 7 Home Premium, 4GB of DDR2 memory, a 640GB hard drive, NVIDIA’s GeForce 9300 integrated graphics set (or Ion, if you please), an HDMI output, a bundled wireless keyboard / mouse and your choice of a 2.2GHz Core 2 Duo T6600 or 2.1GHz Pentium T4300 processor. You’ll also get eSATA support, WiFi, a 1.3-megapixel camera and a 6-in-1 card reader. Three versions are up for pre-order right now at Amazon, with the cheapest pegged at $659.99 and the most pricey at $899.99.
