Acer’s H5360 and X1261 projectors take it to the third dimension

You know who else is firmly situated on the 3D bandwagon? Acer. This fine morning the outfit has busted out two new beamers, both of which are eager and willing to be paired with NVIDIA’s 3D Vision setup for viewing in the third dimension. Outside of that, neither one is particularly awe-inspiring, but if you’ve got a 3D Blu-ray player on the brain, you might need one of these to fully complete the nerded-out basement experiment. Up first is the H5360, offering a native 1,280 x 720 resolution, a 3,200:1 contrast ratio, 2,500 ANSI lumens and an HDMI socket. The lower-end X1261 gets a lowly XGA resolution, a similar amount of brightness and a component video port. HP launching tablets and notebooks with integrated pico projectors this year?

The details are few at this time, but DigiTimes is reporting that Hewlett-Packard is working on busting out some pico projector support in its laptops and tablets in 2010. Currently the wee beamers haven’t found much of a home in the pockets of consumers, but integrating them into these devices might just make sense. There they could serve as additional displays without adding the bulk of some of the other solutions we’ve seen in the past. HP’s VP of Personal Computing Systems Monty Wong indicated that the projectors would be placed on top of the screens on notebooks, where a webcam would traditionally be found — though presumably pointed the other way ’round. It remains to be seen what kind of bulk this would add to a traditional laptop lid and what kind of a cost premium, but we’re at least vaguely intrigued by the idea.
Optoma announces PK201, PK301 pico projectors

Optoma’s been courting the bargain crowd with its pico projectors as of late, but it’s going back after those with slightly deeper pockets with its latest pair of pocketables, which dial up both the model names and the price tags. Coming in at $299 and $399, respectively, the PK201 and PK301 each pack the same 854 X 480 resolution, but the latter packs a supposedly best in class 50 lumens of brightness, along with an optional battery bank for an extra two hours of use in bright mode. Otherwise, each will give you the same 2,000:1 contrast ratio, a microSD card slot, HDMI input, and a roughly similar form factor (though the PK201 is close to half an inch slimmer — head on past the break for a shot of it).
